Neighborhood Plan - Phase 1

Step 1 - Increased Police Presence:

Call the Springfield Police at 788-8337 if you see any suspicious behavior. (Call 911 if you feel threatened!)

Step 2 - Neighborhood Cleanup Day:

Save Fourth Street will be coordinating a Cleanup Day in the next few months. We will need volunteers and cleanup supplies like trash bags.

Police Blotter

One of the officers on our beat was spotted responding to a call this morning around 9am, lights and sirens blaring. The officer was speaking with a young woman who was sitting on the ground in tears. The officer left and she dissapeared into one of the apartments in this questionable structure. Yesterday, what appeared to be a social worker (or a simlar authority figure) was seen entering the same apartment. I hope this is an indication that the authorities are working on the problems in this apartment building.

Crack House Spotted

Last night we called the Springfield police after spotting some suspicious activity around a house in my neighborhood. The two caring officers who responded didn't need to investigate the activity we reported, they already knew what was going on. Instead they stopped by to tell us the scoop. We were told that this house contained a known drug dealer, and that they have frequently picked up prostitutes, addicts and other undesirable characters coming and going from this location.

This is the last straw and I have decided to harness my anger into positive energy could make a difference. I intend to contact neighbors and local businesses with the goal of organizing an informal neighborhood watch to report any and all suspicious activity to the SPD. A frequent police presence may cause these criminals to move on if they think they're being watched. I am also interested in organizing a neighborhood cleanup day to show the town that we care about where we live.

This post is my first attempt to take action...organization could be the only way to stop this activity, and make this area safer.
